Thoughts on the QPR game

Coming up to the Reading game this past weekend, I was very excited about the potential lineup. There were rumors of Piazon making an appearance for the first team after being omitted from the reserves’ game a few days prior. In addition, with Mata being left out, I was hoping to see Oscar get his first start, or possibly Victor Moses. One thing for sure, I certainly didn’t expect RDM to field Bertrand and Ramires either side of Hazard.I usually praise RDM for his tactical decisions, but his team selection for Saturday was just wrong. QPR was the team which had conceded the most in the EPL, there was an opportunity to take the game to them, but instead our coach took a defensive approach with 2 defensive wingers either side of the only attacking threat we had on the field. What a shame … with Oscar, Moses and Sturridge on the bench!

Once Di Matteo took out Bertrand and introduced Moses, the team finally looked threatening, and I can’t help thinking why did he wait that long ? I just hope this will be a lesson to him and he won’t be this cautious against lower opposition, going forward.

Another thing to mention from this game was Fernando’s Torres outburst after being substituted. He was simply wrong for his behavior, and I think RDM needs to put him under more pressure. He’s taking his starting position for granted because Drogba is no longer there, and that is wrong. Sturridge cameo proved he can contribute, and he deserves the chance to push Nando for a starting spot when the latter doesn’t perform.
